De Bakker Faces Painfull Defeat in Australian Open

Thiemo de Bakker lost to French man Gaël Monfils in 5 sets today (6-7 2-6 7-5 6-2 6-1). The Dutch player suffered a mild injury on his groin during the match in Melbourne after being 2 sets and 1 break up against the number 12 seeded.

De Bakker says: "This loss is very tough on me. I had a bumpy start but after that I felt really good. I was up 2 sets and 1 break in the third when I felt my groin. I got treatment after the 3rd set but I could feel the match slipping away from me. I'm pretty torn up about it."

The next tournamant Thiemo will play is the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam, he claims: "I'm going to focus on that tournament the next couple of weeks. I'm ready to win some matches again."
