'Made a strange move during practice'

Thiemo decides in the coming days if he will appear at the challenger event of Knoxville next week. He is struggling with a back injury since last week and has not practiced a lot since then.

The Dutchman picked the injury during a practice session in Bradanton at the academy of Nick Bollettieri. “I made a strange move and the pain did not go away after that happened. I got a lot of treatment, but that did not help to compete in Charlottesville”, according to Thiemo, who had to withdraw from that tourney. “I have to wait and see if I will play Knoxville. I will take a quick decision on that.”

“I does not matter for my season”, continues the current world number 221, who also knew a groin injury in Tiburon three weeks ago. “It is a bummer that things went this way, because I wanted to play a lot of matches. But you cannot control these things.”

On the other hand, Thiemo shows his satisfaction on his training period in Bradanton. “I had a strict program and things want very good, until the back problem started. I practiced a lot with Antal van der Duim and had some sessions with Kei Nishikori. The facilities were very good as well, so has been a smart decision to train over there”, tells Thiemo, who also appears at the Dutch indoor Masters in Rotterdam from 13 until 17 December.
