Thiemo withdraws; USA trip resumes

Thiemo withdrew from the challenger event in Tiburon on Tuesday. A minor groin injury nagged the 23-year old already for a couple of days, but became worse during his first-round match against Wayne Odesnik. “I did not want to make things worse”, according to Thiemo, who retired after losing the first set 1-6.

The Dutchman resumes his training program in Bradenton, Florida, at the tennis academy of Nick Bollettieri next week. Thiemo will have his practice sessions with coach Ivica Ancic for a period of two weeks. “My injury is not that worse that I have to cancel this trip”, told the current world number 191. His next event will be in Charlottesville from 31 October.
