Good result in Sacramento opener

Thiemo recorded a good start at the challenger event of Sacramento on Tuesday. The 23-year old Dutchman defeated fifth-seed Vasek Pospisil 6-7(5), 7-6(2), 6-3 after more then 2,5 hours. He will meet Pierre-Ludovic Duclos (ATP-282) in the second round.

No breaks were seen in the first set and it was Posposil, the current world number 129, who took the tiebreak (7-5). Thiemo was very effective after capturing his only break point of the second set. Pospisil recorded a break as well, so another tiebreak was on the cards. This time, Thiemo was in his comfort zone and grabbed the second set (7-2). The Dutchman had the upper hand in third set and won the match, including three service breaks.

It will be the first encounter between Thiemo and Duclos. The Canadian qualifier (25) eliminated American Tim Smyczek 6-2, 7-5 in the opening round of the Californian hard court tournament. The match has been scheduled on Thursday.
