No victory despite good start

Thiemo did not reward himself with a victory after a period of hard work. He lost 6-4, 1-6, 4-6, 2-6 against Malek Jaziri from Tunesia in the opening round of the US Open on Monday. Keep on going and not giving up are the key words for the Dutchman.

Good start
Thiemo had a good start on court 14 of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. He forced a break on 4-4 and took the first set with the help of two aces. From that moment, Jaziri started to play more solid and made less errors, while Thiemo could not find his level of the first set.

The former Wimbledon juniors champion looked ready for a comeback after losing the second and third set. He repaired an early break in the fourth set and played a long game at 2-2, but it was Jaziri who forced another break. Thiemo did not give up and got three break chances the next game (0-40), but a rebreak was not up on his hands. The Tunesian held control and won the match.

The challenger tournament of Alphen aan de Rijn (next week) will be Thiemo’s next event in search of a winning form. He plays the challenger of Banja Luka from the week of September 12.
