Thiemo against Jaziri on Monday

Thiemo meets Malek Jaziri from Tunesia in the first round of the US Open on Monday. Their first ever encounter has been scheduled as third match on court 14. The winner will take on eight seed American Mardy Fish or Tobias Kamke from Germany.

The 27-year old Jazri, who made his tour debut in 2002, plays his first ever Grand Slam main draw. The current world number 181 (career high) has a stimulating season with three future titles and a challenger final in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. He defeated Fernando Romboli (BRA), Michael Ryderstedt (SWE) and Guillaume Rufin (FRA) in last week’s US Open qualifiers.

“I have never met him before, I do not know him at all. I rather want to look at myself and play a good match. That is more important”, looks Thiemo ahead of his opening match. He has practiced a lot since Wednesday’s arrival in New York, despite this weekend’s weather. “It was fine until Friday. These two days are a bit tougher to practice.”

Full courts
“I hope I can train again today (Sunday, red.), but it hard to find a court. Everybody wants to play as much as they can and the indoor courts are pretty full. Maybe we still can do something at the US Open park. We will find something for sure.”
