Thiemo direct into US Open main draw

Thiemo received good news after hearing he has gained direct entrance for the US Open main draw. At least three players withdrew from the fourth Grand Slam of the year. The relieved Dutchman looks forward to his second appearance. “I am happy I am able to play in New York!”

Highest priority
He travels with a clear goal to the Big Apple. “Of course I have the intention to win as much as I can, but it has not the highest priority”, explains Thiemo on Monday. “I just want to play a lot of matches, rebuild match rhythm and feeling good and confident. That is the most important for me.”

Other circumstances
No concern about the change from clay court to hard court. “I do not have many problems with that most of the time. The change of the heat could bother me more, but it will be ok. I know how to deal with that. I just want to perform well there”, like last year, after he reached the third round in New York.

Thiemo has the opportunity to gain more match rhythm in Manerbio. He will meet the qualifier Peter Gojowczyk (ATP-427) from Germany in the first round of the Italian challenger event. It is most likely this match is scheduled for Tuesday.
