Roger-Vasselin stops Thiemo in Orbetello

Thiemo’s journey in Orbetello ends in the quarterfinals. Edouard Roger-Vasselin was too strong for the Dutchman and took the match after a bit more then one hour on Friday. Next week, the 22-year old will get another chance to earn more ranking points at the ATP tournament of Umag in Croatia.

From the start of the match Thiemo had problems with the powerful strokes of his French opponent. He repaired a 1-4 deficit in the opening set, but it was Roger-Vasselin who grabbed the first chapter. Thiemo could not find the right rhythm in the second set as well and produced too many unforced errors. On the other hand, Roger-Vasselin kept his game on a good level and took the second set and match.

“I felt my arm in the second set. I did not recover well from last night’s match, but it is nothing really serious. I just have to gain the right rhythm of playing a lot of matches and I am happy I have done that this week. Looking forward to next week; new tournament, new chances”, told Thiemo after his match.

He has earned 18 points with his quarterfinal spot in Orbetello, probably enough to return into the top hundred of the ATP ranking. Thiemo does not defend any points in July.
