Straight sets win brings Thiemo in quarterfinals

Thiemo has reached the quarterfinals of the Orbetello challenger. The second-seeded Dutchman defeated Kristijan Mesaros (CRO) 7-6(6), 6-3 after less then two hours on Thursday. Number six seed Edouard Roger-Vasselin (FRA) will be his next opponent on Friday.

The 22-year old had a pretty good start under the artificial light of the center court. Thiemo repaired a 0-2 deficit and took a 5-2 lead in the first set. One game later, he missed two set points and saw his opponent coming back in the match. It was Thiemo who took the tough tiebreak. He saved one Mesaros set point at 5-6 before converting his third chance at 7-6.

The second set was his best performance so far at the Italian tournament. Thiemo played more offensive and had lot of success with his well-known drop shots. The increased confidence pay-out in the last game of the match when he was leading 5-3. Thiemo decided the match with a love game in his opponent’s service game and took match point with a devastating forehand winner.
