Thiemo celebrates comeback with victory

Thiemo celebrated his tour comeback with a victory after an absence of two months. The 22-year old Dutchman defeated Martin Fischer from Austria (4-6, 6-3, 6-4) in the first round of the Orbetello challenger (ITA) on Tuesday. Thiemo faces Croatian Kristijan Mesaros (ATP-211), who beat Gerard Granollers (ESP) in three sets, in the second round.

After period of hard physical work Thiemo played his first match since Novak Djokovic defeated him at Roland Garros in May. The world number 104 had a tough start. His Austrian opponent (193) broke his service three times and took the first set with an ace. Thiemo leveled up his game from the second set and started to dominate more with his powerful service. The Haarlem resident finished the set with four massive service winners.

The final part of the match was tough for both players. After three consecutive breaks, Fischer had the chance to record another break at 3-4, but Thiemo saved break point with an ace. From that moment, the Dutchman held control and won the match on his second match point. A relieved Thiemo, including fist pump, shook the hands of his opponent afterwards.
