Djokovic gives Thiemo tough defeat

Thiemo suffered a hard defeat against world number two Novak Djokovic at Roland Garros on Monday. The 22-year old Dutchman had to deal with the solid power of the Serbian and saw a 6-2, 6-1, 6-3 score after 92 minutes of play at the Philippe Chatrier.

Bit nervous
Before the match, the Haarlem resident, who looked a bit nervous, had clear intentions to put the pressure on his opponent. But it was Djokovic who showed why he currently holds a 38-winning streak (including today). Thiemo had tough moments with Djokovic’s wide angles and strong ground strokes.

Only breakpoint
He missed some luck at his only breakpoint of the match (5-2 in the second set), after he hit a big forehand just beside the line. Thiemo found a bit of his form in the third set, but it was Djokovic who could finish it quickly.

16 levels higher
“There was almost nothing to do about. Djokovic played so easy and I just could not get into my game because of his strength”, explained Thiemo after the match. “This guy is 16 levels higher at the moment and proved again why he is the man to beat at the moment. I tried a few things, but Djokovic was just too dominant. It is what it is at the moment, we just have to go on know.”
